Who is financing the city’s contested council elections?

Four campaigns report $76,501.73 in cumulative monetary contributions through G‑4. Explore every itemized G‑2, G‑3 and G‑4 contribution and open the underlying signed filings.

The chart and money trail cover city-filed candidate campaign accounts. George Williamson also chairs a separately filed state political committee. A different committee, C4, identifies itself as the payer of a postcard critical of Gary Butler. Neither committee’s money is included in the four-candidate total.

A second funding channel · State filing

A $16,500 committee check is about 56% of Williamson’s Council campaign contributions.

That single check is 56.0% of the $29,441 in monetary contributions reported by his city-filed campaign through G4. The state committee and the city campaign file separately; this comparison does not add their money into the four-candidate chart. The committee also reported $5,445.24 for direct mail.

Florida lists Friends of George Williamson as an active political committee. It files with the state, separately from Williamson’s Punta Gorda City Council campaign account.

G4 report, September 26–October 2: A September 28 check for $16,500 came from Southwest Florida Jobs Alliance, a political committee listed in Fort Myers. An October 1 expenditure of $5,445.24 went to TM Strategic Consulting, LLC for “DIRECT MAIL.” The donor and payee list the same Jackson Street address and Suite 202 in Fort Myers, although their filed ZIP codes differ (33901 and 33990). A shared address does not establish that they are the same legal entity or that the contribution paid for a particular mailing.

The committee’s earlier report disclosed a $250 contribution from Thomas R. Klein at a Punta Gorda address, followed by a September 19–25 zero-activity waiver. Its inception-to-date totals are therefore $16,750 in contributions and $5,445.24 in expenditures. Both reported donors are local by our geographic rule: Punta Gorda is in Charlotte County and Fort Myers is in Lee County. The $16,500 is money from another political committee, a distinction that geography alone does not show.

Latest report: October 3–9 waiver. The state activity index now lists a zero-activity waiver for this period. Contributions remain $16,750 and expenditures remain $5,445.24. Publicly verified October 16; the state interface does not display a submission timestamp. Inspect the official activity history ↗

Separate political committees can become a significant route for money into local politics. Friends of Kim Amontree’s record shows why we track this funding channel. The filed purpose identifies direct mail, but the transaction alone does not identify a specific piece in a voter’s mailbox. We keep this state committee’s money separate from Williamson’s city-filed campaign account and from the four-candidate chart.

The mailing: This photograph shows a City Council mail piece with a paid-for statement naming Friends of George Williamson and 1375 Jackson Street, Suite 202, Fort Myers. The committee’s G4 filing reports a $5,445.24 direct-mail expenditure to TM Strategic Consulting at the same street and suite, but does not identify this particular piece or assign a cost to it. Explore 167 displayed contribution entries from the four city-filed candidate campaigns: every itemized record in all four G‑2, G‑3 and G‑4 reports, plus selected earlier entries, including Polk’s March 27 Q1 self-loan. The earlier periods are a sample; candidate loans and in-kind support appear separately from cash/check contributions. The Williamson state committee is documented separately above.

What is included? Every itemized contribution in the four G‑2, four G‑3 and four G‑4 filings is included. Earlier periods remain selected examples, not a complete earlier ledger. Chart totals come from each candidate’s G‑4 summary and include reported monetary loans. Polk’s signed Q1 report lists a $500 self-loan dated March 27, 2026; it was already in her G‑4 cumulative monetary total and is now separately visible in the explorer. The searchable cash/check total excludes candidate loans, and in-kind entries are excluded from monetary totals. The city transaction search mirrored Butler’s $515.24 candidate loan as a second entry; the signed G‑3 report contains one loan, so Protect Local Power counts it once. The separate $515.24 check from David Phillips remains included. Polk’s signed Q1 entry ↗

The City Clerk portal and signed G‑4 reports were reconciled October 9, 2026. Polk’s Q1 self-loan was checked against her signed report October 10 and added to the earlier-record sample; no chart total changed. All four G‑4 reports cover September 19–October 2. The chart uses each candidate’s filed cumulative monetary total, which includes reported loans; loan and in-kind records are identified separately in the explorer. Polk’s signed G‑4 report cover gives the correct period and report type, while some internal pages label its ID “2026 G3.” We catalog it as G‑4 and retain the signed source. Butler’s Mark MacMahon entry has an incomplete city line but lists ZIP 33950; we preserve that limitation in the searchable record. Where an earlier report was amended, sequence numbers and amendment instructions were used to avoid double-counting.

Friends of George Williamson files separately with the Florida Division of Elections. Its first report covers September 12–18, followed by a waiver for September 19–25, G4 for September 26–October 2 and a waiver for October 3–9. Its official committee profile and campaign-finance activity provide the source history; the activity index was checked October 16, 2026. State activity screens do not show a submission timestamp, so the dates here identify report periods rather than filing dates.

A separate source guide examines a postcard critical of Gary Butler whose paid-for statement names C4 – Concerned Citizens 4 Commonsense Communities. C4's committee disclosures are linked there; its money is not part of the four candidate accounts or Friends of George Williamson.

A contribution documents financial support. It does not, by itself, establish influence over a candidate’s position, vote, or official action.
